Meet Paola Barrera.

Paola was born in Venezuela, spent a few years as a student in Switzerland, and moved to the U.S. where she finished high school and college. She began working, found community, and planned to settle down in the U.S. But circumstances forced her to return to Venezuela, where she became a Third Culture Kid (TCK).

While Paola grappled to understand God’s plans for her, she trusted in His mysterious sovereignty. She experienced God’s provision and care and mercy during this difficult period in her life.

Paola got married in Venezuela and now lives in Canada with her husband. Their love story is fascinating and a testimony to God’s faithfulness and goodness in their lives.

Takeaways from this episode

  1. Hard circumstances or unwanted answers to prayers can be the training ground for the flourishing of our faith.
  2. God puts us in certain situations or closes doors for a reason and that reason may not be apparent to us at that time. But we can believe that God is all-knowing and wise and that His plans are for our good and His glory.
  3. We may not know what the future holds but when we chose to obey God now, our trust in Him intensifies and enables us to step into the future with confidence in His love and purposes.

About Paola

A writer, speaker, and mentor, Paola Barrera was born in Spanish, lives in French, and thinks in English. She’s a writer, speaker, and mentor. She loves words and uses them as arrows to point to the best words she knows–those left by our Maker and found in Scripture. Because the narratives we feed our minds matter, Paola aims to engage the mind to learn to think biblically about all of life. Not just the “spiritual” parts. Canadian through the gift of immigration, she calls Montreal home.
